FC Sarasota Futures Program 2023-2024

Hi Futures Players and Parents…

I am excited that our Futures training sessions will be starting in January, 2024. Our first 3 training sessions will take place on Saturdays (January 13,20 and 27) at the Twin Lakes Complex and will introduce the players to the activities in our Futures Curriculum. (See schedule and times of events below)

Tom Goodman, Futures Director, has selected 32 girls (4 teams) and 48 boys (6 teams) for the Winter/Spring Futures Program. Coach Goodman has also selected 10 coaches from the Fall recreation program to staff the Futures teams. The Futures teams will train on Mondays (Girls) and Tuesdays (Boys) beginning on February 5th and 6th and will play in the Futures league beginning on Saturday, February 10th. Futures training and games will replace Rec training and games. (See schedule and times of events below)

The Futures teams’ rosters will be completed by Coach Goodman with input from the Futures Coaching staff following the January 27th training session. Our goal is to create comparable teams for quality competition.

The futures coaches will follow an age-appropriate curriculum developed by Tom Goodman, when he was the National Director of Coaching for US Youth Soccer.

 

The training sessions and games will focus on:

 - Technique: dribbling (moves), passing & receiving, shooting, juggling

- Tactics: attacking shape (long and wide); defensive shape (tight and compact)

Coach Goodman will oversee all training sessions and games.

Uniforms (Training and Game)

The Futures players will be issued a Futures t-shirt at the first training session on January 13th.

 

The training uniform will be:

Futures t-shirt

Navy blue shorts (issued in the Fall rec season)

Navy blue socks (issued in the Fall rec season)

 

The game uniform will be:

Futures t-shirt (Home Team)

White t-shirt (Away team – issued in the Fall rec season)

Navy blue shorts (issued in the Fall rec season)

Navy blue socks (issued in the Fall rec season)

Player/Parent Meetings (January 13th)

Girl’s Meeting (8:30-9:00 am) – girl’s parents please arrive at 8:30 am so that we can introduce the coaching staff and we can discuss program details. The Girl’s training session will be 9-10 am.

Boy’s Meeting (11:00-11:30 am) – the Boy’s training session will be 10-11 am. Boy’s parents please remain after the training session so that we can introduce the coaching staff and we can discuss program details.

I have attached the FC Sarasota Futures Parent/Player Standards document. Please review it prior to the meetings on January 13th.
